NICHICON CORPORATION (HQ: Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto; Chairman: Ippei Takeda) will begin selling its EVPower Station (EVPS), which can be connected with the “MIRAI” fuel cell vehicle produced by Toyota Motor Corporation (HQ: Toyota, Aichi Prefecture; President: Akio Toyoda). This move increases the number of vehicle models compatible with the EVPS, and consumers who own a “MIRAI” will be able to use the EVPS as an emergency power supply to power building equipment and home electronics.

Market Overview

In August 2012, NICHICON introduced the world’s first*1 Vehicle to Home (V2H) system, the EVPS, which has been received favorably. In October 2013, the Company began offering an additional plug-in model to meet the needs of corporate business continuity plans. Furthermore, in January 2014, NICHICON also launched a new high-performance model with an in-room remote control and compatible with cogeneration equipment (such as Ene-Farm*2).

Toyota Motor Corporation’s fuel cell vehicle, the “MIRAI”, which will go on sale December 15, 2014, will be able to supply electricity through NICHICON’s EVPS, enabling power to be supplied safely to buildings and to power home electronics in the event of a power outage caused by a disaster or other circumstances.

To ensure EVPS functionality and quality, Toyota Home Co., Ltd. (HQ: Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture; President: Tadashi Yamashina) will handle EVPS sales, installation and after-sales support to customers with “MIRAI” vehicles.

  • The EVPS is eligible for a subsidy under the Next Generation Vehicle Promotion Center’s next-generation vehicle charging infrastructure promotion project.
  • *1 According to a study by NICHION CORPORATION conducted in June 2014
  • *2 Registered trademark of JX Nippon Oil & Energy Corporation, Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd., and Osaka Gas Co., Ltd.
